Abstract

Early-career academics report uncertainty about promotion, funding and balance. We evaluate a mentoring programme across four universities using surveys and interviews. Participants with mentors who met regularly and gave candid feedback reported higher confidence and clearer plans. Matching on research interest mattered more than seniority. We discuss design choices for institutions starting similar programmes.
