Scope and aims
The Journal of People, Work and Organisations publishes original, peer-reviewed research on how people experience, shape and are shaped by work. We welcome empirical studies, theory-building papers, systematic reviews and short commentaries on topics such as fairness in hiring, employee wellbeing, team dynamics, leadership, and talent analytics.
Types of contribution
- Research articles (6,000–8,000 words including references): original quantitative, qualitative or mixed-methods studies.
- Review articles (up to 9,000 words): systematic or critical reviews that synthesise a body of evidence.
- Practice notes (2,500–3,500 words): short, evidence-informed reflections for practitioners.
- Book reviews (800–1,200 words): reviews of recent books relevant to the journal’s scope.
Preparing your manuscript
- Submit the manuscript as a Word or PDF file with line numbers and no author-identifying information.
- Upload a separate title page with all authors’ names, affiliations, ORCID iDs and the corresponding author’s email address.
- Include an abstract of no more than 250 words and three to six keywords.
- Follow APA 7th edition for citations and references; give a DOI for every reference that has one.
- Place tables and figures at the end of the file, each on its own page with a title and a short note.
Ethics and integrity
Studies involving human participants must state that ethical approval was obtained and that participants gave informed consent. Authors must disclose any financial or personal relationship that could be seen as influencing the work, declare the use of generative AI tools, and confirm that the manuscript is not under consideration elsewhere.
Review process
Every submission is checked by the editorial office and, if suitable, sent for double-anonymised review by at least two independent reviewers. Authors receive a first decision within six to eight weeks. Accepted articles are published open access under a CC BY 4.0 licence and there are no article processing charges.
